https://www.instagram.com/p/BQy4kuWhK9f/?taken-by=yukiyukuleleLast Tuesday I was invited to an induction ceremony for becoming a P.Eng. I actually became a Professional Engineer on August 30th, 2016, but the ceremony only happens a couple times a year. With me was Michal, another excellent engineer that I work with quite often. The ceremony is like high school graduation. All that happens is you go up stage, hand the MC a paper with your name and a few sentences about yourself and get a photo taken with...

Wow! What an exciting time! This winter, Yuki and I had a special trip. Unlike the last few winters which saw us road-trip to either San Francisco or the Oregon Coast, this year Dad planned a family vacation down at an all inclusive resort in Mexico. It was a week-long trip filled with sun, beaches, and new experiences. We left early on December 28th, flying down to escape the icy winter that had fallen on Vancouver. Kevin and Lyndsay flew from Calgary...

Day 19, 4 October 2016 The last day of our shared vacation required checking out of our Airbnb apartment and walking back to the Rome train station. From there, we walked two short blocks and check Yuki's parents into a hotel that they would be staying in for one night before flying back to Bangkok. Meanwhile, we would travel to Naples and Sorrento for a couple's vacation. The hotel was garbage and had terrible service. Since it was the morning and the...

Day 15, 30 September 2016 The day out of Levanto was an early morning because of the train tickets we'd booked in Venice. We took a regional train to La Spieza, south of Cinque Terre and then a direct train to Rome. This train was different in that it had booths of 6 seats each. I asked Yuki if she felt like she was going to Hogwarts. We arrived in Rome and had to walk 2km to the Airbnb apartment. We were...

Day 12, 27 September 2016 Levanto is located on the West coast of Italy where the top of the boot meets the rest of the Europe. We stayed in Levanto so that we could check out Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of five old villages. The villages and the surrounding national park were incorporated as a World Heritage Site for the way that the people had harmoniously co-existed with a beautiful natural setting. Today the five towns are busy...

Day 9, 24 September 2016 Departing Zermatt was unfortunate but necessary. We had seen the Matterhorn so there wasn't anything else we could do with Yuki's parents like hiking, biking or parasailing. We got up extra early to take the Train from Zermatt to Brig, anticipating that the 7 minute change at Brig would not be enough time. It ended up being more than enough time and after arriving an hour early, there was also a train to Domodossola, Italy, that...

Day 7, 22 September 22 2016 Our time in Luzern was over and we were heading to Zermatt. The day began quite early at 7:30 to pack up, eat breakfast and get to the train station on time. We decided to leave extra early to be safe and planned on picking up some take away from that place in the station. It was unfortunately closed so Yuki and I walked around the station in search of other shops. We found a...

Day 4, 19 September 2016 We're glad to be leaving Paris. We've covered everything that we wanted to do and the food has been very disappointing. Maybe we went to the wrong places, but it seemed like wherever we went the food was always the same bland stuff. While there are lots of other museums and such we could see, I don't think we're feeling lacking. We're not really museum people.Travel to Switzerland involved two metro lines in Paris and a...

Happy Thanksgiving! Yuki and I are back from our 3 week tour of Europe and now that I've got a computer to format my pictures, I can post the blogs. Enjoy :) Day 0, 15 September 2016 Our flights are booked with Air Transat, a French airline. We were initially surprised to see touch screen TVs with the latest movies but were disappointed that the meals were bare sandwiches. Unknowingly to us, this was a foreshadow of French food to come.https://www.instagram.com/p/BKd5XasgY-z/?taken-by=yukiyukulele Day 1,...

Yuki and I bought an iPad Pro 9.7 recently on craigslist, saving about $220. It was new in box and never opened. Yuki's looking forward to coding on it and I thought it would be cool to try architectural renderings. On Friday I threw together a model in sketchup of a building and exported some images. Then I loaded the same image into a few different sketching apps to test them out. Most apps are free with in app purchases to...

The Sea to Sky Gondola has half price tickets after 4:45 on Saturdays so after picking up bubble tea and a tim hortons snack, we drove up for an evening of excitement. The lines at the bottom were kinda long but we were able to skip the last part because we were only two.I was surprised by how long and high the gondola was. It's a nice ride up and the lodge at the top is quite impressive. I didn't expect...

Our Mini summer vacation had us going to the island for Kevin’s wedding and a short camping trip on the west coast. Yuki and I took 4 days off but it felt a lot longer. We went to the island via bus and ferry and rented a car in Nanaimo. Using Yuki’s personal corporate rate, we were able to get 60% the regular price! Plus we didn’t have to pay for the ferry or worry about which ferry we’d get...
